Ebay Spoof (fake) Emails

This email first aroused suspicion because we don't trade on Ebay. However if your business does trade on Ebay then receiving emails like the one below, which threaten police action for fraudulent trading, can understandably, panic you into actions that you shouldn't take. Secondly when we passed the cursor over every link in the email, the destination web address that appeared in the status bar at the bottom of the email had nothing to do with Ebay. To see a full size view please click the image

This email was forwarded to Ebay who as expected replied "we can confirm that it did NOT originate from Ebay or PayPal. The email you received was a fake or "spoof" email."

If you receive such an email and you have an Ebay account and are concerned that the email may be genuine then log into your Ebay account by opening a new browser window and typing Ebay's web site address in manually. Do not follow the links in an email.

You can report spoof emails to ebay at http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/confidence/spoof-email.html

Connecting your business is our business

Web site hosting *** Domain names *** Internet access *** E-mail management

Phishing emails impersonate genuine organisations such as a Bank, Paypal or Ebay. Their aim is to tempt you to enter account or personal details into a fake site. The details are collected and either used in fraudulent actions or are sold on.

We prevent many of these attacks from reaching your mail box but because the rewards are high, variations are quickly produced to defeat systems such as ours. Always check that you are on a genuine site before entering sensitive information.
